William Morris sought to transform homes with colours and patterns that reflected the beauty of the natural world. Compton features exquisite tulips and honeysuckle against layers of meandering foliage. Originally printed by hand, using twenty-eight wooden blocks with a different block for each colour, this design translates beautifully onto a luxurious 250 thread count, cotton sateen base. Coloured in Summer-inspired shades of soft greens, ochre and pink, the pillowcases and duvet are finished with a tailored oxford edge. This bed-set is paired with a contemporary soft yellow, stripe design, created from one of Morris’ border designs from a trial page for Love is Enough; the William Morris Gallery archive holds a first edition of Love is Enough, a poetic dialogue published by Ellis and White in 1873.
